With effect from January 2016 Crescent Primary School will offer French and Setswana to all pupils.

Academic-Secondary

All classes are following the IGCSE course (International General Certificate of Secondary Education, controlled by Cambridge University). This is a four year full-time course. The final examinations consist of at least two or more papers per subject which can be written on the core or extended level, depending on the student’s ability as displayed during the final two years.

During the first two years of the IGCSE course the student will take all the subjects listed below (13 Subjects). During the 2nd and 3rd year they will specialize, but should include the compulsory subjects. At present, Geography, Art and Accounts and many more, are offered as optional subjects in year 3 and 4. Students should choose between French and Setswana as a second language. Students who are citizens and who were taking Setswana at PSLE level in the Primary School may continue with Setswana in the Secondary phase. Further details regarding subject choices will be provided directly to the parents upon application, as these may vary from time to time, to cater for the needs of our students.

Students should select 8/9 subjects for the final examination, which is usually conducted during October and November of any year. The School pays the registration fee as an examination centre, but examination entry fees are payable by the Parents.

In Year 3 and 4, subject choices exist as shown above but English and Maths are compulsory and should be passed to be promoted. Due to time-table restraints, Setswana and French cannot both be taken.

The IGCSE examination is equivalent to “O” levels and provides the basis for further study at HIGCSE and GCE A levels. The University of Botswana accepts IGCSE for entry some universities may require GCE AS/A levels or HIGCSE. (NB: GCE A level is a better option than HIGCSE).
